Esther Katherine Pals

1934-2024

Esther Pals passed away peacefully on January 28, 2024. She was happy to tell everyone that she was in her 90th year.

She was born in Castor, Alberta, the first child of Dave and Lydia Stienwand. She was followed by 5 brothers:  Norman, Allan, Albert, Don, Harry and a sister: Verna.  They grew up on a farm where life was not easy, but it was filled with love.

She met the love of her life, Ken. They married, had 3 children, and moved around southern Alberta with the Bank.  After they settled in Calgary, her husband joined Pacific Petroleum Ltd. and Esther spent time at the Bank. In 1984, they moved to Edmonton where Ken was appointed President and CEO of the Workers' Compensation Board of Alberta. They resided in Edmonton for the rest of their lives.

Esther was predeceased by her husband Ken and son Michael.

She is survived by her son David (Cathy) Pals; daughter-in-law Kathy Vasko; daughter Kathy (Neil) Ryan; nine Grandchildren: Kristin (Michael), Matthew (Amy), Andrea (Elliott), Ryan (Vicki), Christopher (Sarah), Kevin, Casey (Jared), Stephen and Evan (Louise); twelve great grandchildren: Grace, Sheena, Decker, Holly, Riley, Hudson, Jude, Sloane, Ryan, Clive, Nora and Shea; as well as other relatives and many dear friends.

Esther will always be known for her world-famous cinnamon buns and handmade

quilts that will continue to wrap up her family with her love.  One of her greatest joys was spending time with family.

Esther was laid to rest beside Ken and Michael at the Castor Cemetery, Castor AB.

A Celebration of Life has been scheduled for Sunday, July 7, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Golden Circle in Castor.  Please join us for fond memories of Esther and lunch.
