Obituary
In Loving Memory
Harlan Douglas Rachar
May 20, 1959 ~ October 15, 2026
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Harlan Rachar on October 15, 2026. Harlan was born in Stettler, Alberta on May 20, 1959 to parents Charles and Hazel Rachar.
Harlan grew up on the Rachar Farm south of Erskine. He attended Erskine School and later transferred to William E. Hay for high school.
On July 1, 1989 he married the love of his life Karen Stang and built a beautiful life raising their two daughters, Hilary and Kelsey.
Harlan spent the majority of his life ranching. He loved his cattle, particularly blue roans. When he wasn’t with his cows, you could find him at the Auction Mart, fixing a fence, watching rodeos or true crime shows, on the phone with his farm buddies and in his younger years on a dance floor.
Harlan adored his daughters and was very proud of their accomplishments. He was also thrilled when he became a grandpa.
Harlan is survived by his wife Karen; daughters Hilary (JJ) Thacker, Kelsey (Geoff Smith) Rachar; and three beautiful grandchildren: Zoey and Drew Thacker and Ayla Smith; sisters June Greig and Gloria (Dale) Campbell; sisters-in-law Lucille Tweit, Annette Pilsworth and Paulette (Bill) Klein; brothers-in-law Arnie Stang and Gordon (Carol) Stang; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Harlan is predeceased by his parents Charles and Hazel Rachar; parents-in-law Tillie and John Stang; sisters Margaret Wittwer, Audrey Young and Gladys Boettger; brothers-in-law Owen Pilsworth, Melvin Stang, Delmer Tweit, John Wittwer, Ross Young, Bill Grieg and Glenn Boettger.
