Obituary

Arthur Charles Tizzard

"Art"

1940 – 2026

Art was born on January 8, 1940, in Ribstone, Alberta.  He was the first born and only son of Norman and Ruth Tizzard. He attended school in Ribstone and Chauvin.  Art had a very strong work ethic.  He worked in a dairy, built schools in construction, and as a farmhand.

Art met Ann Etson at a dance in Chauvin in 1961. In her he found a loving partner and best friend, they were married in 1963 and for sixty-three years they built a life surrounded by family and friends they cherished. Art’s greatest pride and joy came with the birth of their son and daughter Rick and Leila.

He was hired by the Alberta Wheat Pool where he worked for 34 years.  They closed the elevator when he retired.  Art bought a gravel truck and started Art’s Trucking in the early 1980’s.  He loved driving trucks and operated the company well into his seventy’s. He was very proud of his Class 1 license and still had it when he passed away.

Art loved his community and for the 57 years he lived in Big Valley he volunteered for the Ag Society, Raft Race Committee, Historical Society and Scouts.  He was a Town Councillor and Fire Department Chief.  Art was many things, but always a family man.  His favourite things were to spend time camping at the river with family and friends and doing anything with his kids and grandkids.

Art is survived by his wife Ann; children Rick (Carmen) Tizzard and Leila (Les) Ternes; grandchildren:  Madison (Trevor) Wooden, Jamie (Jacob) Schwarzenberger, Abby (Jordan) Davidson, Jeff (Sadie) Ternes, Presley Ternes and Sam Groves; great grandchildren:  Jack and Sloane Wooden, Isla and Rowyn Schwarzenberger and Scottie Davidson; two sisters Julie (Dennis) Fischer and Leona Zacharko; special cousins Sid and Ron Tizzard; special niece Leslie (Stephen) Pinder; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families and many friends.

Art was predeceased by his parents Norm and Ruth Tizzard and sister Connie Darling.
