Gladys Emily (Kneeland) Coulthard was born on November 6, 1928 and passed away on August 9, 2011 at Bethany Collegeside in Red Deer at the age of 82 years.  She grew up on the family farm north of Halkirk and attended Rosebank and Halkirk schools.  On November 27, 1947, Gladys married Clarence Coulthard of the Painter Creek area and to this union, three children were born: Don, Gloria and Karen.

Alongside Clarence, Gladys worked on the family’s mixed farm as well as driving school bus for several years.  Sewing was a favourite pastime over the years, sewing many of her own clothes as well as for the kids.  She was an active member of the Paintearth Sewing Club and contributed her handiwork to many quilts for members and charity.  Gladys also grew a large garden every year and enjoyed keeping the yard and flower beds tended.

Clarence & Gladys enjoyed dancing their whole lives and in later years, travelled to many fiddling jamborees and old time dances.

Gladys was predeceased by her husband, Clarence, in 1997, as well as eight of her siblings.  She is survived by one son, Don (Dean) of Halkirk and two daughters, Gloria (Bob) Hronek of Innisfail and Karen Jackson of Red Deer and eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren: Jennifer Coulthard; Terrence (Lyndsey) Coulthard, Meghan, Reid & Kade; Darcy (Tammy) Hronek, Kayla & Luke; Daryl (Karen) Hronek, Deion & Cole; Kevin Hronek; Kimberley (Darren) Page & Layne; Adam Jackson; and Kyle (Josie) Jackson & Colby.  Gladys is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Thoen of Kamloops and sister-in-law, Edna Dryden of Galahad and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for the late Mrs. Gladys Coulthard will be held on Monday, August 15, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. in the Halkirk Community Hall, Halkirk, Alberta. If friends so desire memorial contributions in memory of Gladys may be made to Halkirk Cemetery or Alzheimer Society c/o Stettler Funeral Home & Crematorium, Box 1780, Stettler, Alberta T0C 2L0, who are entrusted with the care and arrangements.

Please accept our condolences on the passing of Aunt Gladys. We certainly sympathize with your loss. The June meeting between our mother and Aunt Gladys was certainly one of the most fortunate. Both were in good spirits and I am sure that both enjoyed the time.
